Savings Tip for Online Shopping

retailmenot

Retail Me Not is my way to save a few dollars when I need to shop for something online.

It’s a website that provides coupon codes, but the format and reliability is much better than other coupon sites I’ve seen.

  • The first time I used it, I was able to get free shipping, saving me $8.
  • The second time, it gave me a coupon code to save $5 off my order.
  • The third and most recent time, it had no offers for that retailer.

Two out of three isn’t bad.

It takes only a minute to look up a store, because the site has a clean and simple format, and it shows you the coupon codes with the highest success rate.

What stores do you shop at online? Are there any other sites that help you find discounts?

  1. I live in Germany, however often buy online from the UK. I always go to this site first http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/ to see if there is a voucher. More often that not I find one for 10% off- I did recently for some baby purchases from Mothercare and Jojomamanbebe. The 10% usually saves me the postage cost!

  2. We’ve bought a fair bit through Amazon.ca and Sears.ca. I didn’t know about this site and I see that they are both in here. I’ll have to have a closer look around and see if there’s any other store we frequent. Thanks for sharing great link!

  3. I usually just Google “store name coupon code” and click through to the first 3 or 4 sites to see what I can find. I’m always afraid to just trust one site since I figure it must be hard for them to stay on top of them constantly!

  4. I use RetailMeNot and I also do the same thing Mandi does. Either way, I NEVER purchase anything online until I’ve searched for a coupon code. It’s like paying me $5 for ONE MINUTE of my time. Worth it to me :)

  5. I will have to check this site out. I tend to buy mostly through Amazon.com or Half.com. Generally, what I buy online are books and videos, so I usually end up looking at these sites to find out if there is anyone selling these items used. I find that I save a tremendous amount if I don’t mind buying used items.

Of course, there are some things I don’t want used. For those things, I shop around a little more. RetailMeNot sounds like it will be a good place for me to start when I have to look around.

    Thanks for the link.

  6. YES! Since online shopping is usually easier for me than getting out w/ all the kids, I get a lot of our clothing online. I ALWAYS take a look at Retail Me Not before finalizing my order!
http://www.promotionalcodes.com/index.aspx is another one to take a glance at before paying.

  7. Whenever I am shopping online, I always google “{store name} coupon” first to see how I can save money. Retail me not is a great resource! Sometimes blog posts with discounts come up. When I was purchasing a diaper bag I google “diaper bag coupons” and found a 20% off coupon for a bag I really liked.

  8. Thanks for the tip! I often sign up for email updates for stores that I regularly buy from. Every few weeks I will get a coupon in my inbox.

  9. EBATES.COM is awesome! They list almost every store imaginable, then you click on the store link through ebates.com, and ebates will refund a percentage (anywhere from 2% to 10%?) of what you purchase and will mail a check to you.

I’ve already been refunded around $60 from ebates. You also get a $10 gift card for joining, and get $5 every time you refer a friend who joins.

So I use ebates.com to get to my shopping website, then I use retailmenot.com to find coupon codes, and http://www.freeshipping.org for free shipping codes.

My final tip is http://www.restaurant.com for discounted restaurant certificates. Then google “restaurant.com discount code” to find a current code to get up to 80% off. So you can get a $25 gift card for $2. I think the current code is MENU. We use that website all the time!

If you’re gonna shop, shop smart! ;)

  10. If you are signed up with Upromise they will let you know if a retailer has specials also.

  11. What awesome tips – I am bookmarking this page for the next time I shop!

  12. SoBella, I also use Upromise. They give you money back to pay off your college loans, or to save up for someone’s college fund (like your child’s or niece’s or nephew’s or whomever’s), and I think I read that you don’t have to put the money toward college — you can get it back in a check.

The best is when I do a search for a store’s promo code AND click on the link through Upromise: it saves me some money and gives me money back at the same time.

  13. Yep, this is the only site I use as well. I’m a sucker for a clean interface.

  14. Thanks for the tip. I never can seem to find a site that doesn’t seem out of date or way cluttered and hard to figure out.

  15. I’ve got two other sites I use… http://www.freeshipping.org and http://www.ebates.com

I always click through ebates whenever I shop online so whatever I buy, I earn a rebate % off my purchase. I earned over $28 just off my Christmas purchases with ebates. This doesn’t count the discount codes I found through retailmenot and freeshipping.org!

  16. I also usually just Google the name of the store I am shopping at to look for promo codes. As far as other sites that help me find discounts, I like checking out the online bargains posted at a couple of forums – Pinching Your Pennies (http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10) and Fishing for Deals (http://www.fishingfordeals.com/forums/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=catch). I have found some great deals there over the years. It’s how I do most of my gift shopping. Only problem is sometimes it’s tempting to buy stuff I don’t need because it’s such a bargain :-)

  17. Thank you for sharing the RetailMeNot website. I used the one for Crocs and it worked. I got 20% off.

  18. I do what Mandi does, google it! But more often than not, Retail Me Not is the one I end up at.

  21. I love to do online shopping and I love to use coupons to save my money. I get free online coupon codes from http://www.CouponRefund.com. It’s a website that provides coupon codes, but the format and reliability is much better than other coupon sites I’ve seen.
