I'm reading through your past posts and TOTALLY know the craving for this broccoli slaw when pregnant, I happened to get some at the grocery store salad bar earlier in the week but am thrilled to have a recipe to try out on my own. Keep up the great posts! They're such a great balance of all the things important to you (like cravings :)

O I love a brocolli and always have - it goes into just about anything we eat as I have come to regard it almost as a condiment. When we are getting low on brocolli I become anxious - chuckles - I get more anxious than if we are getting low on toothpaste for example. Thanks for the great recipe - you should try this with smoked turkey breast instead of the bacon - it's splendid too.

(singsong voice) Guess what I bought yesterday for $0.88/lb?

Broccoli crowns! Yes, my husband doesn't know what he's in for this weekend. (He probably won't eat it, but he'll have to watch me eat it.) ;)

I just made this tonight for the family I work for. It's tasty! I used walnuts and more lemon juice instead of vinegar due to food allergies. I'd like to make it for myself. I bet using yogurt adds a nice tang.

It's really good with a can of mandarin oranges, too.

@Julie -- I always make it with plain non-fat yogurt instead of mayo and it's great. I imagine Greek yogurt would be too.

When I saw this on Smitten Kitchen recently, I knew I wanted to try it, too - just haven't had a chance yet. If I was pregnant again I'm sure I would've run to the store by now for the ingredients, though. I'm breastfeeding so my insane cravings are still there, just not quite as loud/insistent.

I just saw my friend Kim (who lives near Tokyo - I live in between Osaka and Kobe) had posted about a homemade version of furikake (seasonings for topping rice), and I'm going to try her version. My preschooler loves furikake, but if you buy it in the store it's loaded with MSG and extra sodium. Here's her homemade version: http://kimskantancooking.blogspot.com/2009/06/furikake-sprinkles-for-top-of-your.html. Sounds good!

I LOVE broccoli and will definitely try this. Salads, just about any salad, is usually my first choice when faced with a menu.
