I just happened upon your blog and found this post which is so timely. We cleaned out my husband’s office yesterday and I have lots of “tech” stuff that I was going to have to drive much further than my local Goodwill to recycle, plus pay a fee. Thank you so much for this info!!

Thank you thank you…. I have three computers that are sitting in a closet because I didn’t know what to do with them or where to take them… this post has certainly helped with that. I can take them to the local goodwill and clear out a closet! So win win!

I would also point out that if you don’t have a Goodwill that Best Buy has a recycling program for small appliances. There is more information on their website. But recycling your electronics is SO much better than just throwing them out. They aren’t biodegradable… it’s better to give them to someone who can dispose of it properly or recycle it than just throw it in the trash.

And yes. I have a TON of cables. My husband works in IT, I don’t even know what half of ours are for.

For anyone in Australia, the local Councils run a weekend drop off three or four times a year… check the local community papers.

This is such a relief! I hate it when this stuff ends up in landfills. Goodwill is everywhere-no more excuses people. Do the right thing. Thanks Rachel! I’m getting ready to move and I will be simplifying AGAIN…including a printer and a scanner.

For less-altruistic people (or people trying to get out of debt asap like us), there’s Gazelle.com where you can sell your old stuff for a small profit. They took my old laptop that wouldn’t even turn on and paid me $75 for it, plus they handled the S&H! Every little bit helps!
