Good Reads – the 92nd Year

My Grandma turns 92 this weekend. She is lovely. Her house has looked the same for as long as I can remember. While I was younger I probably would have thought it should be updated, but now I love the consistency. Kitchens should always have red.

I want to share a few fun links with you this weekend:

Catalog Living – receiving too many catalogs? Laugh about them.

Indexed - always love pen on paper.

Sesame Street podcasts – my kids love these short (about five minutes) Sesame Street episodes.

I’ve really tried hard to limit the amount of promotions that I share at Small Notebook. I want this space to be a haven where it’s not about the stuff. This season I’ve declined doing features of products because honestly I feel like you’re probably getting enough of that already.

I did want to mention, though, if you’re going to be shopping on Amazon.com anyway, that the things you buy at Amazon can support this site. All you do is first come to Small Notebook and then click a link over to Amazon like this one or the button on the sidebar before you buy something. It’s a really easy way to give back, and I greatly appreciate those of you who have supported us this way this past year. Thank you.

Many blessings to you this weekend!

  1. I know what you mean about grandmother’s kitchens… my Nana is now in care and I have inherited all her kitchen stuff… I have her handmade placemats which always looked so kitsch but now hold precious memories for me (as she loses hers)…

  2. Thanks so much for your site. I LOVE to shop on amazon (christmas shopping with a three year old in the mall… why would I do that to myself?) Plus, I just discovered you can do amazonmom and get free amazon prime shipping (two day with no minimum cost) for three months for free, and an additional month for each $25 you spend in the baby category. We found out that if we sign up for them to send us diapers every few months (subscribe), we save a TON. I paid $25 for 105 Earth’s best diapers. Plus, I’m not paying the $75 for amazon prime that I use frequently in my rural area (stores are TOO far)!

I know, I know, we should use cloth diapers… but we don’t :(. Thought that might be something folks would be interested in, and I’m assuming if they bought it after clicking on your link you would get some benefit? And those chlorine free diapers are so stinkin’ expensive.

  3. Hay small notebook, My Granny lived forever… it was lovely and I can’t believe she isn’t with us anymore – except my youngest daughter who almost shares a birthday is like a short replica and reminds me of her daily!!! if you like sesame street then… Did you know that Barefoot Books has a fab podcast – lots of variety like the books. And we never have, but you can go to he websites and down load printables that go with them. Very cool!!!

  5. Thank you for opting out of the reviews. Lately I feel like everyone is reviewing something and I get sucked in to checking out websites and products that I then feel I need. And THAT is exactly what I am trying to get away from! I am striving for simplicity and frugality. If I am constantly bombarded with info about new products. no matter how “good” they are for me, then I also have a harder time sticking to my guns. SO frustrating. It makes me want to stop reading the blogs all together. Thank you again. And next time I go on Amazon, I’ll stop here first! (only wish I knew this last week….) Merry Christmas!

  6. I just discovered Catalog Living and my coworkers and I wasted a good 15 minutes laughing our heads off!

  7. You have to LOVE a Grandma’s house. It always looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. I know that it’s not Christmas until I enter Grandma’s house and smell her cinnamon potpourri on the stovetop and Grandpa’s fire is blazing away!

I shop at Amazon all the time. Truly. At least 3-4 times a month I am ordering school supplies, presents or home items. I will definitely link up through your site from now on. That’s awesome! :)

  8. Oh, the memories you’ve brought back to me about Grannie’s kitchen.

I loved the link for the Sesame Street podcasts as I love to share the show with my grandson.

Thank you for not commercializing your blog. I’ve grown so tired of that on many of the blogs I read. And, I would be happy to link to Amazon through you.

  9. vermontmommy says:

Okay, I added your Amazon link to my toolbar. We shop at Amazon so frequently that we might be able to finance your entire year off with our purchases. LOL I knew you had the link but I must say I did not use it but once or twice. Now, I can just click on the toolbar and be brought to Amazon via your link. Yah.

I also am part of the Mom’s club and highly recommend it.

Yah, for grandparents’ homes. I miss mine…

  10. Love your blog. You reminded my of comments one of my daughters made “I want to buy Nana’s house after she dies”, as she doesn’t want to loose any of her memories of Nana. We have moved around a lot in the last 12 years, but Nana’s house has always been there to return for holidays. I didn’t realise how dearly my daughter was clinging to that until she said this. Happily we are moving back to Nana’s state to live this Christmas, what a great gift.

  11. I’m so blessed to still have my Mema in my life. She’s 86 years old and still going strong. Some of my fondest memories have been sitting in her kitchen eating her wonderful food! I hope to create those kinds of memories when I’m a grandmother.
