Real Solutions – New!

Today I’m pleased to show you Part 1 of the new changes I’ve been working on behind the scenes: a group of links called Real Solutions on the side of the page. (Click through to see it on the sidebar if you’re reading this in your email or RSS reader.)

I want Small Notebook to be a resource of tips, inspiration, and encouragement to make life at home a little easier for you. One of my goals this year is to make it a little easier to find these tips as the site continues to grow. (There are three years worth of articles in here!)

If you’re looking for something specific, each link takes you to the articles written for that topic.

Are you dealing with piles of paper? I’ve written all about that as I’ve worked through my own paper piles.

Trying to work out your storage space? Me too as I’ve lived in so many apartments. I try to tackle it by getting rid of the excess and then organizing what’s left. And I’ll even show you my Monica’s closet and the time I cleaned it out.

Laundry? It doesn’t have to be bad.

(A disclosure on this picture — the chicken turned out to be kind of tough to eat, but it sure did make a pretty picture.)

If you’re looking for specific help on photos, mornings, routines, budgets, cleaning, or any of the 15 topics, these links will help you find what you’re looking for.

I hope it makes Small Notebook even more helpful for you! Thanks for reading.

  11. What a terrific idea. To be honest, when I first discovered your blog, I did have a little bit of trouble finding articles on the topics I wanted to read about (like organizing) and so I ended up just reading through your archives. Now, it is so easy to find exactly what I am looking for! Good work!

  14. So fun! I especially like the “Ask Doug” section, for some reason. Probably because all my favorite blogs (housekeeping and mommy blogs) are lacking in male influence, so it’s refreshing.

  32. I noticed your fresh update a day or two ago and love it! Wanted to add that yours is one of only a half dozen or so blogs that I read on a regular basis. Keeping computer time to a minimum is very important to me, so to that end I stopped reading many blogs. I decided that I only wanted to read blogs that offered something helpful to my daily life. Your blog made the cut! I always glean helpful tips and insights here at small notebook. Your blog isn’t just an online photo/family scrapbook…It’s so much more!

  33. Oh brilliant!!! Thank-you!!!

  37. I don’t know how you do it(even though I’m reading your book), Rachel, but I definitely like what you’ve done. Living in another country now, moving from place to place — then still keeping up with your blog. Impressive!

I’m in the process of organizing my blog, too. Even though I’m living in one place it still isn’t that simple. However, I’ll be looking at what you’ve done for inspiration, and tackling things a little bit at a time.

  38. Great idea! As a blog grows, really good stuff can get buried and go unseen by new readers – or even old ones with a vague recollection of a post they want to reread! Nice choice of photo!
